Wellness Warriors Radio

I am so thrilled to have been a podcast guest with Michal Ofer and Beth Romanski on their Wellness Warriors Radio Podcast. I sometimes have to pinch myself that people want to hear what I have to say! Me! Granny Keto! I guess it’s time - Miriam Hatoum has been Granny Keto for a year now and it’s time to start stepping out!

Listen here.

Moving outside my comfort zone

If I told you how many times I questioned myself. There are so many people in the Keto community. What do I have to offer? Do I offer anything new? of value? interesting? Who am I to help other people? Let’s just say, to put it mildly, becoming Granny Keto was way out of my comfort zone! But I did it and persisted and now people DO think I have something of value to contribute to the Keto community; they DO find me interesting; I DO offer a unique perspective, given that I am a senior citizen (YIKES!) and a granny and a wife and a mother and retired. I have been through the diet rollercoaster since I was put on an official doctor’s diet at the age of 13.

And how did moving out of my comfort zone to become Granny Keto actually help my own weight loss journey? Well, first of all, I’m not doing the same old same old am I? Yes I have wanted to overeat and binge as my anxiety took hold, but I learned that anxiety is just a thought. True it is a feeling also, because it vibrates at a certain level in your body, but it is a thought that starts it. So rather than fill my head with all the “I’m not good enough” thoughts I filled my head with “I can do this. I am worthy. I am capable. I am enough.”

Feeling good about yourself begets feeling good about yourself

Really - why do any of us overeat, binge, or just not follow a good food plan? Yeah food tastes good and we just like to eat - that’s some if it. We might have whacky hormones and take medications that make us hungry. Yeah that can be some of it too. But I doubt any of it - delicious food, hormones or medication - really got most of us into the pickle we are in now, needing to lose weight. A lot of what is behind weight problems are mindset problems. As I started to feel more confident and that I am a worthwhile presence in the Keto community, I also started to feel better about myself, in general. Feeling better about myself, you say? Yes, that translates to eating quantities that just about bring me from a -2 to a 2 or 3 on the hunger scale (another blog altogether, but minus 5 {ravished} to a 0, neutral; then 0 to plus 5 {stuffed}, so -2 to 2 or 3 is a little bit hungry to satisfied). And, my friends, it is effortless now that I know that both Miriam and Granny are worth it! Moving out of my comfort zone has given me courage and strength and wisdom and determination.

Please, look at something in your life that scares you. Tackle it with courage and wisdom. Be determined that you can do it and you are worth it!
